Love

Upon a pedestal that word belongs
If not felt strong, then my heart speaks wrong

Love’s fine letters
O slants off
This museum frame
Rare honor embossed

Deepest blush of lacquer red
See through to the sky
What shall last
Past our death

The above poem was my entry for the Thursday Poetry Rally. Many thanks to the esteemed Jingle for all the tireless coordinating she does.

About the awards:
These last couple of months I have been thinking to myself, “Self, I wish I could buy a new car.” Well, not only did I get one. Count ’em. 1…2…3… shiny new automobiles! Awesome. I always knew blogging would pay off… Seriously though, these peer awards are bestowed based upon votes in the categories of Short Stories, Art/Painting, and Humor—which is perfect because I tend to think of myself as a writer, artist, and occasionally funny.

Thank you for reading my work. I love blogging. Appreciate all who visit, comment, and encourage. That being said, my nominee for this rally is a tie between Moondustwriter and slpmartin. I decided this based on the fact that they have both been taking successful artistic risks in their respective writings. Check out their work. Congrats to them both!

To be linked side by side with my friend Charles is indeed an honor. As a writer I’ll say this- Charles takes a picture of life and eloquently portrays it into words.
Adam our life of writing is like your picture of LOVE – we need each other to lean upon, to give volume, inspiration, and allow the light to shine upon our work
ok enough of being sentimental – love both you and slpmartin

    • It’s okay, Leslie, sentimental is good 🙂
What you say is true and heartfelt. I 100% agree with you in regard to the caliber of Charles’ work. As for your most recent work, in particular your 55’s, they’ve been excellent, and I am by no means the only one who has noticed that. Write on! and sincere thanks.

  2. awesome,

I will post within 5 minutes.

  6. Thanks, fiveloaf. I enjoyed your poem “as usual”
    Enjoy the rally!

  7. Adam..you honor me in two very important ways…first and foremost I am joined with my dear friend Leslie in this nomination…her words have often inspired a poem or two, but more often then not put a smile on my face or challenged my mind…second being nominated by another writer like yourself makes me a winner…for each of these gifts I sincerely thank you!

  8. Oh…I forgot to say how much I enjoyed this poem…but of course that was implied in my comments. And if there is Anyone who has not read Leslie’s writings they can find them here http://moondustwriter.com/.

  9. Love is that one thing that we cannot completely capture…but you sure pointed us in the right direction

  10. what shall last past our deaths… so hopeful, so lovely. Beautiful piece. Heartspell

  11. Thank you, Heartspell 🙂 I think it is true that it lasts if we consider the art museum in the distance.

  12. A great poem with an intriguing question at the end.

  13. Anthony, I think your Beyond the Blog magazine style posts provide amazing food for thought. Looking forward to the next installment… as for the poem, thank you.

    • Thank you 🙂 Living in MI, I root for the Red Wings… but congrats to Chicago, it was a fun series to watch. Philly has a right to be proud of what the Flyers accomplished this year. During my stay, it seemed the entire city was behind them.

I’ve been thinking of doing something similar on my site…I’ve got the equipment and am brainstorming. It was SO cool to just look at the picture and listen to Your thoughts. And CONGRATS to You and everyone for the awards! Thank You and Cheers and Namaste. 🙂

    • You are too kind, Blissbait 🙂 I care about my work and hope it shows through the recordings. If you have any questions, feel free. Also, check out Charles’ site for a great example of what can be done through supplementary audio:

wonderful poem, very beautiful and lovely pic.

your poems and pix always fit hand in gloves. how can you do it?

  22. LOL… sure, take your pick, trisha. (just don’t take the convertible, ha ha)
We all deserve to ride in style! Perhaps my sarcasm is a bit much, but I do think it is a clever idea to present symbolic cars as awards. lol

Thanks for the nice comment about the poetry/pics… it’s an enjoyable creative process for me, as a result 95% of the time it seems more fun than work.
    cheers 🙂

  23. Adam,

  27. wwoowww… brilliant pic and an awesome poem Adam 😀

  28. Hey Meg! Your rally poem prompted me to respond poetically…. I don’t think you are capable of writing an uninspired poem. Always appreciate you visiting 🙂

    Thank you

  29. Just read it and commented 🙂 Hope all is going well

  30. That is a fantastic sculpture, and a poem to match. Thank you for sharing!

  31. Appreciate your kind comment, Morganna. It truly is a great sculpture. I enjoyed my visit there. cheers

  32. What a truly inspiring poem! Your words are always so eloquently put, and so beautifully chanted. Your expression is divine and your experiences are clear. I thoroughly enjoy reading your words. 🙂 And thank you for dropping by, I appreciate your thoughts deeply. The love in this poem speaks right out into eternity. So truthfully put, the chanting is ongoing flying into heaven. I enjoy your expression very much. 🙂

  33. Ana, wow, the sincerity in your comment warms my heart. I am very grateful for your compliments, encouragement, and kindness 🙂 It is an honest poem, and I feel blessed to read what you just wrote. Thank you so very much. cheers and have a wonderful rest of the week! 🙂

  34. Love. It wraps us up in moonbeams and shines us through to sun. Blissful. I love the idea of reading your poetry. A very nice touch Adam.

  35. That’s exquisite Adam!

  36. I have marveled at your poetry, Adam. I have to read them out loud before I can get the feeling from them. I read this one out loud before I noticed that you had placed a reading under it. I read it like you did. That made me marvel about your choice of words. You have an incredible talent for putting words together. These poems are images enough. We get an extra treat when you pair them with your photography!

    • Hi Leslie! Thank you as always… It’s fun to read these, sometimes I read them a few different ways that alter the meanings. I’m trying to break my shyness of readings in general. I think this is helping. The response certainly is. Also, thanks for telling me you read it like I did—makes me think I didn’t mess up. lol Thank you again, L. cheers 🙂

  37. Guess it’s true on Thursdays it’s a real field of dreams come true. “If you post it they will come!” Congratulations on those impressive vehicles! The greatest gift any of us can have is Love and you’ve expressed it nicely.

    • Thanks, D.S. It’s great to see you participating in the rallys as well! Couldn’t agree with you more. Thursdays have become pretty amazing. Cheers!

  38. “if not felt strong, then my heart speaks wrong” that line caught me particularly. The poem illustrates the picture with insights we wouldnt consider if we looked at the picture ordinarily…It is always a pleasure to read from you…Thanks for being there when I was sick…I really appreciate. Cheers Man!!!

    • I’m not the only one who was wondering about how you were feeling, Emmanuel. You’ve already shared a bit of yourself with all of us through your quality poetry. We’re all glad you’re a part of the community 🙂 thanks, man!

  39. caroompas Says:

Nicely done – I love the marriage of photo and poem, and the inclusion of the audio is icing. Very simple themes, seemingly, but then you sit for a moment and let them sink in, and it becomes clear that so much is bubbling under the surface. . . great work.

    • Thank you! That’s extremely kind. “…much is bubbling under the surface” Love that! appreciate your comment. cheers 🙂

  40. the photo is awesome 😀 … loved the tilted O and beautiful words complimenting the picture 🙂

  41. Appreciate the compliment, Raj 🙂 It’s a great, unique statue; one of my favs anywhere. Thank you!

  42. mairmusic Says:

it’s hard to write a poem so literally about a picture, but you make it work!
    http://mairmusic.wordpress.com/

  43. Thank you, Marilynn. I like combining images and words.
You’re right, it can present a challenge trying to honor both visual and literal meanings—though altogether a fun process. Have a wonderful weekend 🙂

  44. Hi adam..another great poem, where do you get the pictures from for your muse…re your nominations spot on & leslie does so much…take care Pete

  45. Hey Pete. thanks, man… I’m just a nerd who brings his camera with him much of the time, even where I live. Just read Leslie’s latest 55 this morning… excellent work!

  46. Love, can be taken far to seriously,
What fleeting moment lasts an eternity?
Truth rings in the cold hard light of day,
It’#s love in stone, that never fades away.

Love your take on the sculpture Adam. Very much approve of the reading. Can’t make out your accent though!

  47. Sound hearts break
    Warm spirits find
    No need for stone
    Blood color reminds
    😛

LOL.. that’s for making fun of my accent— Snap!
    You’re a great poet, Shan.

  48. Great little poem Adam! I love the ‘o’ slanting off – it’s as if the mouth is saying ‘oh’ but being slanted, it’s kind of cooing, like a head on one side! Where was this sign? the pic is gorgeuos!

  49. I mean gorgeous of course:)

  50. Took the pic in Love Park (Philadelphia), Lynda. Spent a few days there last week. IF you look through the structure bolstering the sculpture, the Philadelphia Museum of Art is the stately building in the distance. It’s fitting that the “O” is altered; like how you describe it, nice description btw. I think the piece sends off good vibes. Witnessed many people stare and marvel at it, many of whom I saw smiling reflectively 🙂
    cheers

  51. Yup… it was too good…

    cool writing!!

  52. Glad you liked it. Thank you!

  53. The “esteemed” Jingle. I like that!

I remember when that Love sculpture was on a stamp. Pretty.

Beautiful poem! Love (not Coke,) is IT!!!

    xo

  54. LOL Hi Jannie! I didn’t know they put that on stamps. Cool—postage reserved for love letters of course. lol Thanks 🙂

  55. Excellent poem and photograph!

  56. Thank you, Lawrence. Always appreciate your feedback 🙂
    cheers
