In no time I’ll find peace
And hope before I die
‘Cause human beings have reason
To live beyond our lives

Chest bursting hay overstuffed
With corncob pipe gorilla glued to mouth
And wicker stray sun hat shielding
Stone eyes drooping from gravity
Above spineless flaccid neck
Duct-tapped to habit
Fastened to half a severed telephone pole
Bleached to the very straw from sun
Whitewashing chest & wrist hairs
Standing guard to another autumnal harvest
Upright, an endless stolid sentry
Weathered, crop-dusted, surveyed, speculated
Quiet spectacle to fly buzz,
Mosquitoes swirling hover sounds,
–As well as seemingly undetected
Electronic bugs observing the growing rows
and electronic bugs, & electronic bugs
Intergalactic Outsider

When dry wind susurrates howling
Sifting through wavering palm fronds
Scuttling runaway road sand
My heart beats thudding rapidly
Mind racing from adrenal glands
Because it’s one’s will in time
Considering thought nonlinear
Tangential to affixed biology
So often illusive; dreamlike in clarity
An ineffable sound to invisible muse
In retrospect when hindsight deafens
Fear itself that I must lose…
Ambling through proverbial minefields
With tennis rackets for sensible shoes
Teetering on edge of fraught intensity
…each knotted fibrous sinew
…each entwining charged synapse
From grey to darkest matter shocking
Until perception slips…
From moist tenuous grasp
Love animates our very blood
Born to further ancestral collapse
As we live upon revolving earth
While aiming for space to finally crash
